ZooWhiz Gets Mobile

EdAlive ( has just released a version of the multi-award wining for the exploding world of mobile computing. ZooWhiz is free for everyone and helps kids aged 5 – 15 learn maths, reading, spelling, punctuation, grammar and more, whilst having fun at the same time.

Hon. Richard Torbay MP, Member for Northern Tablelands, officially launched ZooWhiz for Mobiles at Sandon Public School in Armidale on Tuesday 6th November 2012. Also in attendance were the Mayor of Armidale Cr Dr Jim Maher; Mr Michael Wilson representing the NSW Dept of Education and Communities; Ruth Samuels, Principal of Sandon Public School; and a host of others from the local community.

Kids, teachers and parents can now access ZooWhiz from mobile phones, iPads and Android powered tablets. Most kids’ web sites are slow and unresponsive on mobile devices but not so with ZooWhiz for Mobiles. The Armidale-based team has used advanced HTML5 techniques and a smart server back end to eliminate Flash and its cumbersome work-a-rounds.

With for Mobiles there is no App to download or update and all the kids’ results are saved directly to ZooWhiz. This revolutionary approach places ZooWhiz at the leading edge of online learning systems globally.

Graham East, the Managing Director of EdAlive, said at the launch “Our team has done something very special that is at the forefront of educational innovation. In a few short years there will be a mobile tablet in every child’s school bag. Just as mobile technology has transformed the lives of adults so too it will impact primary school education. It’s just fantastic that we have ZooWhiz working on mobile devices right at the beginning of this revolution.”

The creative ability of the EdAlive team was recently recognised with the awarding of the 2012 Innovator of the year (2012) for the North West Region of NSW. They also won the Education and Research category in 2011 and 2012.

After the official launch the kids got right down to using ZooWhiz for Mobiles on their iPads. Mac1 of Armidale donated an Apple TV to the school on the day and it was used to display ZooWhiz for Mobiles on a massive screen. The kids really engaged with ZooWhiz, choosing maths and word activities just right for them from the 17,000 activities built into ZooWhiz.
