Region’s innovators awarded

ABOUT 100 business owners and community members from across the New England and North West attended this year’s Regional Development Australia Northern Inland Innovation Awards dinner gala.
On Friday night, the award winners from five categories, as well as the top innovator of the year accolade were announced and presented to the northern business leaders at Tenterfield.
Held at the Sir Henry Parkes Memorial School of Arts complex – where Australia’s Father of Federation and one of Australia’s first great innovators made his famous Tenterfield Oration – the ceremony was made up of a broad cross-section of local businesses and organisations.
It’s the fifth time the awards have been presented, with this year’s top going going to an Armidale-based educational software developer.
EdAlive won for its ZooWhiz online children’s learning environment.
It also took out the Research and Education Category award.
The Horticulture and Associated Services category award went to SaferGate of Inverell, the Tourism/Leisure and Related Services award went to four New England council’s “Experience the Highs” initiative, Professional and Retail Services went to Hutchison Software of Armidale and Manufacturing and Engineering went to StarLogixs Electronics of Deepwater.
Organisers said it was a fantastic night and showed that this region was full of rich innovative business operators.
